Instructions and help on adding or editing a page

Tip: This site uses Drupal for its content management. In Drupal, you need to save any work that you do by hitting the 'submit' button at the bottom of the page. If you choose another tab such as 'view' or navigate away from the page you are editing, your edits will be lost. So it is best to 'submit' fairly often. If none of this makes sense at the moment, read the below.

Please note that to protect owners and their dogs, no personal information or specific location information should be provided on this website. We use only first names and general locations. Owners can be contacted via the contact pages of this website and can choose whether to respond.

To edit an existing page

Editing an existing page is very similar to creating a page. However, most users will only be able to edit their own pages. Your pages are those that you have created, or ones that the adminstrator has made for you.

You will know if you can edit a page once you navigate to the page. If you can edit the page, you will see an edit tab at the top of the page.

Click on that tab, and you can edit the page. There might be some html code in the page to confuse you, but in general you will be able to read the text.

Proceed as below to make changes.

To Create a Page, follow these steps:

1. On the right menu bar, choose Create Content, then choose Page.
You should get a new page that says 'submit page', with a number of boxes to fill in.

2. Type in a title.

3. Choose one or more topics that apply to this page. You can choose more then one topic by holding down the ctrl key as you click on items.

4. Go the the bottom and hit the 'submit' button. This will save the page. After you hit submit, you will see a blank page with a title. You should submit the page regularly to save it. You must submit it to save it before you navigate away from it, or all your work will be lost!

5. Click on the 'edit' tab below the title and you will be back on the edit page, with boxes to fill in.

6. Go to the body and type in your text. You can use some simple html formatting if you know how, otherwise just get the text and pictures in, and we can help tidy up the formatting later. Oh... and did I mention to be sure to save the page regularly by submitting it?? :)) You can then click on the edit tab to continue editing.

7. If you want to add an image, then click on the little green + icon sitting just below the box in which you are typing.

8. It is easiest to add an image that already has an existing image page. Instructions for making image pages and adding images to your page can be found at:
http://newzealand.ceskyfousek.org/help/addingimages
Note that if you right click on this link and choose "open in new window", then you can read the instructions as you add the picture.

9. (Optional) Choose a place in the menu system for it. Go to the green link that says 'Menu settings' and click on the link to expand it. Add a short title for the menu item and choose the parent item for it. This will place it into the menus.

10. (Optional) If you want an address for this page that is easy to remember, then you enter it under 'URL path settings'. Click on 'URL path settings' to expand it and then enter the address. Everything is relative to newzealand.ceskyfousek.org, so just add the rest of it, For instance, the address of this page is: http://newzealand.ceskyfousek.org/help/addingpages and I just typed in: help/addingpages to get this. If you do not do this, then Drupal will assign it a path that you can change later.

If you want to format the page, then you can add html tags to format the text. A good reference for html tags is:
http://www.w3schools.com/tags/
If you do this, then you will need to change the input format so they are interpreted as html. To do this, on the page in which you submit the form, expand the 'Input format' item and choose 'full html'
